1) Carefully tear the striking surfaces of safety matches.
2) Burn these on a saucer and blow away all the ashes.
3) You will find that a brown greasy film is left on the saucer.
4) This oily film must be carefully scraped off – and stored in a small metal pill box.
5) Now if you take a small dab of the oily substance on your finger-tips, and rub your thumb on it, smoke will be produced by the friction.

Magic Secret #15
The Floating Candle

Take away the candlestick and the lighted candle remains floating in the air with no visible support.
A fine strong, blackened wire (a steel guitar string is ideal) is concealed in the coat lining. A small lead weight on the lower end causes the wire to be kept out of sight until the trick starts. The candle is transfixed on the sharp end of the wire and is drawn up and forward a little, pulling the wire from its hiding place. At finish, wire is allowed to sink back into coat.

Magic Secret #16 The Feast of Candles

If you have just done a trick in which a candle is used you can further astonish your friends by taking the lighted candlestick and eating it! (It’s very good, too)
The parlour conjurers of the Victorian days made a great mystery of this baffling, trick which is rarely seen nowadays.
	1) Trim a peeled banana down to a cylindrical shape to make the “candle”.
	2) Stick a slip of almond or brazil nut into the end of the “wick”.
3) Light the slip of nut at the last moment as the oil does not burn for many seconds.
4) Bite off the lighted end and close your mouth on it.  That will extinguish the flame at once.

Magic Secret #17 A Double-Headed Coin

1) When you slap this coin – head side up – into your left hand.
	2) There’s a head on the other side as well!
But – there isn’t really! Still there’s head showing on each side, so how is it done?
Here's a slow-motion explanation …
3) Right hand moves quickly but smoothly from under coin;
4) Coin starts to drop into left hand:
5) Right hand turns over; coin has nearly reach left hand now;
6) Coin has fallen on left palm, right hand is ready to slap down on it.
— so the coin never really turns over!

Magic Secret #18 Who Put That Stamp on the Ceiling?

	For years, the Magic Circle headquarters had a Postage stamp stuck firmly in the middle of the Ceiling. Who put it there? Let’s whisper, – Will Dexter put it there, but without leaving the ground, here is the SECRET ...
	Wet the stamp and lay it gummed side up, on an old smooth penny – the smoother, the better. .
	Hold the coins like this and raise the hand sharply, suddenly releasing the coin.
	As you let go of the coin, give it a spinning motion horizontally. It will sail up to the ceiling and fall – leaving the stamp suck to the ceiling.
