When you’ve had a card chosen and looked at by your audience – and then returned  to the pack – control it to the top, and:     1. Invite the chooser of the card to press the back of his hand on the pack, which is face-down on the table.  Show him how to do it – as in the sketch above.

2. When he has pressed the cards really hard – you reach under the table, and bring out the chosen card!

3.  Secretly lick the back of your  hand before you press the back of the cards.  The top (chosen) card will be carried away on the back of your hand, which you place under the table ready for the grand finale!

Five Choices

Before this trick is shown, you lay a sealed envelope on the table.  When the trick is over, the envelope is opened, and it is found that you have successfully predicted which cards a spectator would choose.

On the table are your sealed envelop and five heaps of cards, face down.  A spectator is invited to choose any heap.  He turns over his cards, opens the envelope and reads aloud the message it contains.

The message reads “You will choose the 5 heap”. And that’s exactly what he’s done. The SECRET: He could have chosen any of the other heaps and he'd still have chosen "The 5 Heap" Because — they're all "5 Heaps"

5 (1) This heap (any number of cards more than 5) is No. 5 from the right-hand end of row. 4 (2) In this heap, the pips total 5. 3 (3) This heap contains the four 5’s. 2 (4) This heap has 5 cards in it. 1 (5) This heap (any number of cards more than 5) is No. 5 from the left-hand end of row.

Magic Secret #57 The Card With Four Sides!

It is impossible, of course, for a card to have FOUR SIDES, but – 1. You can show that side bears an ace. 2. This suite has four spots. 3. This side has three. 4. and this side has six spots. These sketches though, show that the SECRET is an easy one. The fingers, as shown in the drawings 1,2,3 and 4, cover blank spaces or spots as required.

Practice well in front of a mirror, and especially watch the way you change the card from hand to hand and turn it round.

Magic Secret #58 A Tunnel Through a Playing Card

If you like to see a person walk through a playing card – HERE’S THE SECRET
	Fold the card length ways.
Cut the folded card as shown by the lines drawn here.
Gently open out the card ---and the hold you have made can be stretched until you can walk through it
The closer together you make the cuts, the bigger the hold will be!

Magic Secret #59 Strong Man Stuff!

	It needs great-strength indeed to tear a pack of cards in half.  Here are some easy ways to do it.
	The easiest – bake the cards in a hot oven. They become brittle and easy to tear.
	Make a one inch cut through the edge of the pack. Hide this by a loose card on top and bottom.
	The secret of tearing the pack by sheer strength is a strong grip on the ends of the pack. Bond the pack up and down as a solid mass, not as 52 separate cards!

Magic Secret #60 The Romans Had a Word For It!

An old, old trick, but one that’s still popular.

1. Ten pairs of cards are laid face-down. Ten people are invited to look at and remember a pair each.

2. The pairs are gathered up face-down, and are then dealt out face up in front rows. The audience are then asked to point to the rows in which are the cards they looked at. As each person points to a row, you are able to name his cards. HERE'S HOW

The Secret

The secret is in the way the cards are laid out when you deal them into the four rows. You must memorize this sentence – David Lovel in Yon Abbey –.  It contains 10 pairs of letters. The cards are dealt on to the places the letters would occupy if they were written on the table like this. The first pair of cards goes on the two D’s in “DaviD”.  The next pair goes on the two A’s (rows 1 and 4).  The third pair does on the two V’s (rows 1 and 2) and so on till all the cards are dealt out. When your audience point to the rows in which they see their cards, you think of the pair of letters in those rows and are thus able to identify the cards on those letters.

Here’s another formula for the same trick.  It is said to date back to Roman times and uses the Latin words. MUTUS NOMEN COCIS DEDIT Which mean “Mutus gave a name to Cicis”

Magic Secret #61 Through The Needle

Many people find it difficult to thread a needle with even one thread , but you, being a magician, can thread a needle with a dozen or more threads, when you’ve read this!

1. Thread needle with 18” of cotton. 2. Push needle through one thread here. 3. Pull thread at X in direction of arrow and keep pulling. 4. Keep pulling thread round and round until the ends are reached 5. Cut off top of loop and there you are! A dozen or more threads through the eye of the needle!
